Professional aviation is not only a fun and exciting career, but a rewarding one as well. As airlines continue to grow and older airline pilots continue to retire, more and more pilots are needed. The hiring lately has been at an unprecedented rate. As the industry itself never ceases to grow and expand, it is conceivable to assume that hiring prospects will continue to be good for a very long time. Not all pilots fly for the airlines; many fly for government agencies, private companies, large corporations ~ about any area in the world one can imagine.

In recent years airline pilots have been fortunate to be some of the highest paid regular employees of any business. With salaries that range up to $250,000 a year, it is easy to say that it's one of the best jobs you can find. Although a flying career takes some initial sacrifice and investment, the rewards are obvious. Most airline pilots work about half a month, enjoying several days off at a time, free flight benefits, and outstanding pay. Pretty nice, isn't it?

Many would assume that such a position of stature, importance, and authority requires years of military training and experience and that these types are the only ones who 'make it'. One could never be any more wrong than now. As mentioned before, pilot hiring is on fire. There are many among you who are quietly working on their pilot licenses and ratings and in no time at all, will be employed by a commercial air carrier.

Professional aviation requires more than just flight expertise, however, and the majority of airlines require a pilot applicant to also be degreed from an accredited college or university. As this is true with many of the good jobs these days, the prospects of good jobs have been exceedingly brighter. College students who are aviation career bound and have been actively pursuing flight training during their college courses are finding jobs not only upon graduating, but some even before graduation. Those who have persevered at both a college education and a professional pilot program have been rewarded with jobs more often lately than ever before.

Now is your time. Good economies don't last forever, and those who don't jump on the bandwagon now might be lift behind.
