Private Pilot more info
Your Private Pilot's certificate is your key to the sky and
to wherever you want to go!! Personalized instruction by one
of our professional flight instructors ensures quality education.
Training for a private pilot's certificate requires a minimum
of 40 total hours of flight time, 20 hours of which must be
conducted with a flight instructor, and 20 hours of which must
be conducted solo as per the Federal Aviation Regulations. Students
will also have to pass an FAA written exam and a final oral
and practical exam (known as a checkridge) with an FAA examiner.
The average time required for students to adequately prepare
for their checkride is 50-60 hours.
Estimated cost: $7,000 - $10,000
Instrument Pilot
An instrument rating allows a pilot to fly safely in what is
known as instrument meteorological conditions (IMC), also known
as 'clouds'. A private pilot license allows an individual to
fly when weather is favorable, but when inclement weather ensues
the pilot must steer clear. Instrument pilots have the ability
to fly solely based on cockpit instruments and air traffic control
instructions, allowing them to fly in less than favorable weather
conditions. This challenging course has some prerequisites of
the private pilot. Training includes at least 40 hours of actual
or simulated instrument time, including 15 hours of dual instruction
with a flight instructor. A student must also pass an FAA written
exam and a checkride with an FAA examiner.
Estimated cost: $5,000 - $6,000
Commercial Pilot
A commercial pilot rating is required to fly any passengers
for hire or compensation. Private pilots many not accept monies
from passengers unless it is only to offset the costs of aircraft
operation. This rating is a must for any professional pilot.
The minimum requirements for this certificate include 250 hours
of pilot-in-command time and being at least 18 years of age.
Curriculum includes a minimum of 20 hours flight instruction,
including at least 10 hours of instruction in a complex (retractable
landing gear) aircraft.
Cost varies depending on student qualifications and experience.
